THE GIST: I was on the edge of my seat reading The Prince. It had me laughing, blushing, and then cringing all in one chapter. This has to be my favorite of the Original Sinners Series. It had all the angsty components of a romance and all the pain of erotica. Oh how I enjoy being waist deep in Reisz’s world of pain and kink!
SYNOPSIS: Keep your friends close and your enemies closer…preferably in bed. That’s always been Kingsley Edge’s strategy with his associate, the notorious New York dominatrix Nora Sutherlin. But with Nora away in Kentucky, now it’s Kingsley’s chance to take her place at the feet of the only man he’s ever wanted — Søren, Nora’s on-again, off-again lover — until a new threat from an old enemy forces him to confront his past.
Wes Railey is still the object of Nora’s tamest yet most maddening fantasies, and the one man she can’t forget. He’s young. He’s wonderful. He’s also thoroughbred royalty and she’s in “his” world now. But Nora is no simpering Southern belle, and her dream of fitting into Wesley’s world is perpetually at odds with her dear Søren’s relentlessly seductive pull.
Two worlds of wealth and passion call to her and whichever one Nora chooses, it will be the hardest decision she will ever have to make… unless someone makes it for her…
THE LOWDOWN: Original Sinners series has always been a bit on the dark side of erotica for me. It’s not just a kinky bondage/dominant story line; it explores the lives of Sadists and Masochists. It’s hard to swallow this world at first, believing that people live this way. Though, the more I read, the more I understand.
The Prince is told from three different story lines- Nora and Wesley in Kentucky, Kingsley and Søren’s story in the past and also the present. The combination of storylines adds to the suspense, because you have to wait a few chapters to see what’s going on in which time/place.
Søren literally puts the “S” in BDSM. You’ve read his story in The Angel, but it wasn’t until this book that I truly understood Søren…fell in love with him. He is such a hard man to love, always cold and distant; needing to inflict pain to show his love. My heart ached for Kingsley and his never-ending love for Søren. I’ve always had a sweet spot for the French-speaking, Prince of Kink and the Underground- Kingsley, but my infatuation only grew with the back story between him and Søren.
As for Nora and Wes’ story, it was the lightest story line of the series. Nora struggles with her feelings towards Søren and Wes. After falling for every one of these men, I can’t fathom the decision that Nora has to make. Nora Sutherlin is my most admired Heroine! She is hysterical and caring, yet takes crap from no one.
The story ends on a WTF of a cliffhanger. All I can hope for is that the time flies.
