OVERALL THOUGHTS: Vampires and sex?  Yes, please!  While that is usually a winning formula for me, this book was a little too similar to a certain hit vampire show on HBO.  It was still an entertaining read that I felt needed more character development and deeper story lines, especially for the female protagonist.

His past holds a secret…

Arie Cush has a secret that he thought he’d left behind. When his past follows him to Chicago he must protect someone who reminds him of all the painful memories he’s tried so hard to forget. But when every touch from her sets his heart and body on fire–he finds it hard to maintain his aloof façade.

that becomes her nightmare.

Holly Ellis has secrets of her own. An encounter with the handsome stranger who frequents her coffee shop reveals a vampire with baggage. Even though it might be more than she bargained for, she can’t resist the one person who understands her. But her life is in danger and a supernatural threat could reveal the underground world of vampires to humankind in this Gothic Cinderella re-telling.

THE LOWDOWN: Buckle up, because this book is 347 pages LONG of tortured vampire romance.  Storyline starts off very slow as we get the background info on Holly and Arie and why both of them have so much baggage.  Arie is your typical hot, brooding vampire who wants Holly, but feels he can’t be with her because she will get hurt.  Basically, he is annoying for a good portion of this story with his wishy-washy emotions toward the lady he covets.  I did enjoy the times he was charming and how chivalrous he was towards her.

Holly had the potential to be a strong female protagonist, when we learn of her hard childhood. Any person would have to be tough to endure what she suffers. But with her life now endangered because of Arie’s secret, she loses herself to him and becomes dependent instead of being her own person.  I really wanted to learn more about her childhood and family, but when the opportunity came, we weren’t given many answers. I did, however, enjoy her wit and pursuit of Arie sexually.  Her take-charge moments, both in and out of the bedroom, were refreshing in a female lead.

The flow of the story was choppy and some scenes that should have been important were breezed through, while other not important scenes were too detailed.  The sex was entertaining, but I felt the best scenes were the ones set in the past.  The author did a very good job using vivid imagery and details, while creating one hell of a scary, psychotic villain. Since this is going to be a series, I was disappointed with the predictable ending and felt that the author should have kept some aspects of the storyline the same while changing other storylines to lead into more suspenseful preparation for the follow-up book.

FINAL THOUGHTS: If you enjoy vampires, especially the initial love story of Bill Compton and Sookie Stackhouse in True Blood, combined with some BDSM, then this book is for you!  I would love to hear your own personal review of the book, so please leave me a comment below.

Jessica… Thanks so much for the review! I really appreciate you taking the time to post it. I do have a favor to ask you. I’m hoping to do an ad for this later and many places set a minimum amount of reviews. If you have the time I would love if you put this review on Amazon and the link is: If not, no biggie 😉 But if you can stick the review above on Amazon as well I would be happy to send you Cursed Ever After, the paranormal erotica prequel as my gift to you. Thanks again for reading! Take Care, A.C.
